“I knew he was dead. The news of the Second Kinslaying spread far, and I was young,” Airaiel shrugged, “I suppose that there was no point. I had no intention of sailing so soon,”

“Ah, I understand.” He smiled, remembering his own preference - he’d rather travel the wider world that live out his life quietly in Valinor. “Especially because of your heritage, it was wise to wait a while before you decided to sail.”

unknown-feanoriel:

“It did, I guess, but for me it was more of a prison. I was supposed to look and act nicely, and that is one thing I have always regretted. I used to fight  with Celebrimbor so often,” Memories washed over her, and she willed herself not to cry, not in front of a great lord.

“My sister was like that when she was young. it took a great effort and the promise of a trip fishing or swimming afterwards to get her to attend court in proper attire.” He laughed softly at the memory.

“But more importantly,” he looked up at her, “Did you never seek out your father? I would have, if I was in your situation.”

unknown-feanoriel:

“When he was passing east, he went through Ossiriand, where I was growing up. After my mother died, he took care of me until I was old enough, but I stayed with him in Eregion until… until he died,” She paused for a moment, “Then I went north. I couldn’t stay any more, nor go to any other elvish settlements for fear of being turned away. Lot’s of people were annoyed with him anyway after the whole ring business,” She looked down at her fingers for a moment.

Finrod nodded, clasping his hands and looking down. He knew it was a terrible thing to lose one parent, let alone both, and he pitied her.

“Ah, so you lived in Ost-in-Edhil?” He sighed, knowing that his sister had lived there for a time, “I often wish I could have seen it, they say it shone.”

unknown-feanoriel:

“Well…” Airaiel shrugged, “I don’t know. Perhaps it is because my mother was of no great Noldor house. Some people take ancestry as a big deal,” She smiled, “But nothing can be done. My father is long gone, most of his legacy drowned under the sea,”

“That is so.” He bowed his head solemnly, remembering his own last battles. “May I ask how you came to know Telperinquar? Or Celebrimbor, as he is known.”

unknown-feanoriel:

“I didn’t take his name until after my cousin Celebrimbor died. If not for the Fëanorions, Ennor would be a different place than it is today, and perhaps already in darkness. It took some time, but now… now I am happy with my identity,” Airaiel spoke in a low voice, barely audible to her own ears.

“I see…” He said, still confused. “It is strange, Amrod never mentioned having children in all the time I knew him, and I knew him for a long time.”

Finrod & Airaiel

His horse was being stubborn, as she often was, and Finrod huffed and dismounted. “You can have some sugar if you just bloody move, dear,” he entreated, ruffling her forelock fondly. He didn’t mind, this small stream was as good a place to make camp as any, after all.

It was not until he turned that he noticed a figure among the trees. “Hello? Who goes there?” he called.

Airaiel noticed the elf from behind the trees and promptly made herself visible.

“I am Airaiel Amrodiel. Who are you?” The glade was silent for a moment, save for the elf’s horse, which was making for the stream.

He stepped back, sure that the either the elleth had misspoken or he had misheard.

“A-amrodiel?” He asked, wondering if this was a cruel jape. He had thought his cousins long lost, no trace of them left in this empty land.
