Glorfindel just laughed at the question, “anything, everything,“ he chuckled and shrugged. “Nay, perhaps not everything, but certainly their relationships confuse me. I hear the strangest things and have been asked some quite disturbing questions over the years when they have visited Imladris.” He blushed faintly at the memory of some of them, particularly from the more forward of the Men he had met.

“For a start, I have no clue how the mortals may sometimes grow bored of one another in their short lives, bored enough to part and move on to another, or even do so before parting sometimes.” It really was confusing, for they called those who had seen seventy turns of the seasons old, which was but a blink of an eye.

“Then there is the way that they live in general. The way that they have to work to be able to eat and clothe themselves and such. To earn enough to purchase things, or go hungry and without. It’s not right, all should be taken care of regardless of their position.”

They had coin and such of the different realms of Men that they bought goods from, for those who preferred currency to the elves’ preferred exchange of goods.

At his cousin’s admission, Finrod laughed along with him. “I will do you the courtesy of not asking what they wanted to know, though I think I can imagine,” he thought for a moment, “From those I have spoken to on the matter, I believe that most Men do not bond with each other as we do. Of course, there are some exceptions. But they as a rule do not feel obligation to stay with a certain partner forever, unless they really love said partner.”

“And even then, they are able to fall out of love with one another.” Finrod frowned even as he spoke, barely able to comprehend how this could be the case. He understood Glorfindel’s confusion, even though he had studied the topic in-depth. Perhaps mortals who fell in love with a member of the Firstborn bonded like the Eldar, but he could not be sure.

“I think the explanation for most of the strange and different behaviour of mortals is their short lives. They want, and need - and I do not mean that lightly - to experience fully all they can in the time that was given to them. Their lives are a race to their deaths, in which all they can do is collect as much useless worth as possible in order to feel like their life is a worthy one.”

Fonrod grew quiet for a moment, thinking of the terrible deeds done in this avarice. “It can spark a malicious kind of greed in some of them, as I suppose was shown to marvelous effect by the nine mortal kings and their corrupted rings.”
